Iraq Prisoner Abuse

Although it has taken me a long time to write out this blog I do have a lot to say about the Iraq prisoner abuse. Behaviour is something we begin to learn when we are about 6-8 months old. What we see and what we are raised around determines what we do as people in the future. All around the world its all about control. Control of the government, police officers, bosses, parents, teachers, principals, and many many more different types of people are all in one controlled environment. With all this control comes control freaks. People who watch and are influenced by people who are in control can get a bad image or become crazy with the power they are given. They figure they can do whatever they want just because they are in a state of authority. The reason I believe they feel this invulnerablility is that because they are in power they feel a false sense of security.

Power can get to peoples heads and soon they may not care about anyone other then themselves. The reasons for this I believe is because of the power they have been given, they feel more important and more of a success. Growing up when people see successful and important people they see them fawned over, worshipped so to speak. So when they end up in a similar position of power they end up having the automatic behaviour that they are important ,that they are all that matters, and that people should worship them.  Abuse comes from power in all ways. The abuse of power, the need for power, or the gain of power.

Multiple Smarts

In doing this assignment we had to do a M.I (multiple intelligence) test to figure out what are strongest intelligences are. We compared these results to people our age in other countries and found out that alot of places have similar intelligences for our age group. There is a few that are different though. My results came out slightly different than any others in my class. My music was 100 % intelligence, and my people smarts were around 95%. Those were my two highest. My math and nature smarts were the lower on my results which is different than others in our class. It was interesting to see the gender different in people our age. Females generally seem smarter with numbers and words than males do and males seem to be more body smart. I was not surpised to see music and word skills up to a high point, but I was surpised to see my nature smarts as low as they were. If you would like to see my results I have had problems posting the image of them onto my blog. So here is the link to my results page. Enjoy.

Moral Pharmacist: Human Reactions

Watching the video “The Moral Pharmacist” got me interested in many different ways. It showed alot about how people can be when a situation is happening right in front of them. They ignore it like it doesnt even exist, even though as they sip their coffee or read their paper they are being bothered by the situation each minute. People will complain about a situation like that but they wont do anything at all to fix it. I do not agree with how the Pharmacist acted towards the teenage girl. He pressed his morals and what he thought was right or wrong on different people. Because of his own moral beliefs a teenage girl was not able to get service at the pharmacy. People reacted differently to this when a scene was made. They first teenage girl that went in was almost ignored completely by people when she was making a scene. Few people took notice but one helped out the girl and told the pharmacist off stating that “Its not your decision to make.” Some peopel commented later on that if it was their daughter they would be happy to know that the pharmacist refused to fill out the prescription.  When the second more of a “rebel” girl came in people paid much more attention. Now the reasons they paid attention is what should be paid attention to here. Did they pay attention because of how she looked? or acted? I think that people who dress and act more rebellious get much more attention than those who obey they laws. Why is this? Because it is outside of the norm. People are mentally shocked by what is different around them. So when this rebellious looking girl with a attitude came in looking for birth control she was noticed. When the prescription was refused to be filled she made a scene, in which people paid close attention and a few nuns gave her advice on how to get the prescription of birth control that she wanted. People pay attention closer to things that do not seem right and some of the time help them out more than a person who follows the laws. Why do they do this? I believe that humans get mentally excited at things outside of the norm and automatically wish to help out a person who is different than anyone else.  The more excitement they have in their lives the more they feel like living.

Online Dating: Fibbing Men

Online dating is a scary thing. We never know what is going to happen and when things go out of control our mind automatically goes to our “fight or flight” response. In the video both of the first girls are nice about the guy not being who the internet profile said that he was. That was their “fight” to just have a good time anyway and perhaps even fall in love anyway. The last girl used the “flight” part of response. She let the anger and fear of meeting up with a total stranger out and automatically told him that he was not who he said he was.  Its the unknown that makes us afraid. Because we havent been through that type of situation yet and the media and our influences put into our head about how dangerous things like online dating can be. When your not sure who someone is face to face you have no idea what to expect. Our minds hook on to what we do know and expect it all to play out in just that way. We cannot take being wrong about we already know. So even if we see these people after meeting them online our judgement could be blurred by what we hoped the person would be and by what we think they are; when really they could be something completely different.

Online dating is a dangerous and mysterious thing. If you are going to participate in this, heed these words. Be careful, be safe, and always have a back-up plan.

Will You Help A Stranger?

After watching the video “Will You Help a Stranger?-Social Experiment” I noticed just how fearful people are. If someone feels intimidated by someone else they are less likely to help them. The reason for this is our basic animal instinct. The survival of the fittest ties in here. Looks cannot be everything in this type of experiment. The pretty woman gets ignored for help while the average looking girl gets help even when being loud, annoying, and gross.  It all shows that  in the theory of the attribution theory, we are not afraid of just what is different, but what is better than us. We tend to help people we may not know or even like just to say and have the glory of helping another person. We do this so that we may feel superior to others. So that we may feel like we are intimidating rather than being intimidated.  Fear is big part of the attribution error.  It controls our mind to be intimidated or scared of something that looks better than us. Or seems different. Sordid thoughts run through our minds when being intimidated and that is why we decide not to help someone who is in a need. Intimidation is a part of our minds and it causes us to do things we never thought we would. It is the devil to our angel, our dark to our light, and our moon to our sun. It is the other part of the attribution theory.

The Attribution Theory

After watching the video on the attribution error I did a great deal of thinking. An attribution error is a misjudgement based on what people may wear or how they may present themselves through body language. People will figure that just because a man may have long hair or dress differently than most people, that they are different or weird. Someone could walk around wearing torn up clothes and have sunglasses on and people will automatically assume that they are poor, dangerous, criminals, disgusting, homeless, or many other different labels we in society have come up with. We judge books by their covers even if we don’t mean to. Our subconscious takes over and tells us through our “fight or flight” first impressions what we like and what we don’t. In class we had a discussion on Marilyn Manson’s girlfriend. A pretty girl, from first impression you would think she should be dating a rich european man. But really she is with a crazy american metal head that looks like a walking corpse. We think of her as a pretty and innocent looking girl when really under that mask she could be a raging metal head looking for some excitement with one of music’s greatest freaks. The attribution errors are all around us in our day to day life. We can try and fathom our subconscious minds to try and change ourselves from judgement of others, but we will never fully be able to get rid of all the prejudice hidden deep inside our heads.

My thoughts on the world.

This post is what I think about the world.

In a world as cold as the one we live in, trust comes with the price of responsibilty, a responsibility not many have the mental capacity to fathom. People will go through the grooves and folds of western society just to find ways to get ahead of their fellow man. They will drop all responsibilities for their own sordid reasons. How can people say their is a god when all these dark and dreary things happen to the people who do not deserve it, and the best things come to those who are the most self-seeking get everything they have ever wanted. If there is a god it is obvious he does not care, and he sits on his golden throne watching us suffer. So can we really call him god? The one who loves us and cares about us and watches over us? If he really cared why would he let all the hate in the world commence causing us to kick a fellow man to the ground just to get a small step ahead. The world is built on trust. Trust to another man to run things and keep things going without failure, but trust is a dying art that has fallen through the cracks of society, and to replace is has been debauchery, degeneracy, hatred, betrayal, and many more of the darkest things known to man. With this the world has fallen apart. People can no longer trust or even live comfortably in their daily lives without being afraid that something horrible is going to happen to them that is caused by somebody else. The rich are flaunted while the poor remain ignored, and execrated. We try to escape this harsh existence through denial, religion, drugs, sex, alcohol, and many other things that just make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Than we fall to pieces again into the gravity of reality and many die with nothing to show for their life. All this darkness is caused by the mistrust and evil of the world that we as humans have began to flourish into our natural lives. So… All I have left to say is….

Screw the world.

Suicides: The Pointless Tragedy

While looking for articles I became deeply saddened by the amount of articles on suicides in Canada. In 2004 there were over 3,600 suicides in Canada alone, and it increases with each passing year. There are many reasons why people commit suicide. It could be financial trouble, depression, abuse, shame, even physical pain. Any bad feeling in the world can cause a depression deep enough for a person to want to commit suicide or take an easy way out. A person can feel like they are going insane and want to commit suicide, and some people may feel like they have no other option. In recent times in relation to the Hadron Collider Experiment outside of Geneva Switzlerland, people have killed themselves due to fear that the world might end and be sucked up into a black hole caused by this experiment.

My thoughts on suicide are that it’s pointless. There is always something you can do about a problem to try and improve it and make it better, and if that fails well at least you tried without giving up and taking the easy way out. You should never want to take the easy way out because you never know what could happen in the future, or how things could greatly change and make things better for you. Also, a lot of reasons people commit suicide is because of a problem they cannot get out of. Yet there is almost always a way to fix things but most of the time the people are just to afraid to do what needs to be done to solve the problem. But you need to recognize that the key to change is to let go of our fears. Instead of thinking about suicide, use that anger, sadness, emotion, fear that you feel, to rage a fire inside you to solve the situation your in.

Many people may not have the logic to believe this thought. Psychological and neurological studies have shown that over 90% of people that commit suicide have a mental illness at the time of their death.  What’s the worst mental illness for causing suicides?  Mood disorders such as bi-polar or even depression are the leading cause of suicides in the world. Studies show that people with mood disorders are 12-20 times more likely to die by suicide than someone without a mood disorder. Alcohol and substances also have a great effect on suicides. Evidence shows that over 50 percent of people who commit suicide have alcohol or substances in their blood at the time of their death.

In conclusion, I believe that suicide is unnecessary and very much a pointless tragedy. But it doesn’t matter who you are, everyone has had the dark thoughts every once in a while thinking would anyone really miss me if I was gone? But you must also remember, you could mean the world to someone and just not know it, there is always someone who cares and always someone out there willing to help you. You just have to find them.

Nothing Is Trivial

We all go through our daily lives making small memories having small fun times things that dont mean all that much at the time, small things that people do for you to make you happy and help you live day to day, small things that make you smile. No one appreciates these small things, until all they have left is the memories. Every moment in life is precious, you never know what you can add into that moment to make it special, or how the moment could be torn apart to create an experience so you learn from it. No one realize just how fast life comes and how fast it can be taken away, anyone can die at any moment of any day, and more than often none of us will realize it. We as Humans have become cocky and confident in ourselves and dont realise that with every next breath we take it could end up being our last. Our behaviours for this are influenced by how we are raised. We see people taking things for granted each and everyday. The air that we breathe, the food that we eat, the water that we drink. All these things make a mental imprint into our minds and we grow up with these influences and become used to taking things for granted.

So my advice to you all is to love and care for the person that means the most to you, be courteous to people and kind, care about your fellow man and help a person out that is in need, watch a sunset with a loved one or the moon rise, look back on old memories from when you were young and smile, everyday make at least one person feel special. Because all these memories that seem to trivial could end up to be the only things that a person has left someday. When you think of all the times that have gone and past and all the things we as humans need to begin to cherish it comes down to one thing… In a world of life and death…Nothing Is Trivial.
